Where were you on this day 46 years ago?
I remember as I was in a Police House in Benllech http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benllech on Anglesey between 3pm and 6pm.
I was camping with the school and it was World Cup final day and England were in the final and I had to find a way to watch it.
In those days the idea of being able to watch TV in a tent hadn’t even been thought of.
On the morning of the game a few of us decided we should go and knock on the door of the police house and ask if we could watch the game on their TV.
Thankfully PC Jones the Bobby said yes and we rolled up just before 3pm to find about 30 people in the front room glued to the television, including a couple of Germans.
The rest is history although we did get into a bit of trouble for getting back late for tea due to the need for extra time to win the cup.
I don’t know what happened to the Tiverton bus this morning but a minibus turned up instead of the proper bus. It was a struggle for those with walking frames to clamber up the steps.
You can see from the picture that the destination is not shown at the front of bus next to the number. It was handwritten on the piece of paper stuck on the windscreen.
We had a bit of a laugh this afternoon when 3 of our regular schoolgirls came in.
Normally they trudge in after school to buy some sweets before heading off home but today they were ready to go to a friend’s party and were dressed up to the nines.
The funniest part was that they were all wearing very high heeled shoes and could hardly walk.
The ladies in the shop at the time then all reminisced about the times when they could wear high heels on a day to day basis – but not any longer.
Later in the day my other half was giving smart phone training to an older lady customer who was showing off her Samsung device. She was singing its praises but was still a novice at using it. She learnt several new facilities before she went on her merry way.
