A bit of a late blog today as we have been on flood alert all day.
We had been warned about another deluge on top of the couple we have already had this week.
It was a quite a steady morning as not many people ventured out in the damp conditions.
I did perform a new activity today as I helped someone extract themselves from a tight parking spot outside by signalling to the driver through the Post Office window on how close he was getting to the car behind.
At twenty five minutes past ten this morning one of our neighbours popped her head around the door and asked “What time is the bus to Tiverton?”
She is not normally a bus ride person but her other half had gone off with the car so probably for the first time she had to catch the bus to Tiverton.
I replied “The next bus is about ten past twelve as you have just missed one. If I were you I would see if anyone who stops outside is heading that way and beg a lift”
After she had approached about half a dozen vehicles , all with rejections I saw someone go up to her and have a word.
I understand the person thought she was kerb crawling!
After work we should have been heading over to Somerton to a friend’s retirement do but due to the weather forecast we felt we had to stay in Bampton just in case the floods extended down to us.
Around midnight the water was backing up the road so I headed down to the council store to seek out some sandbags but there were none left.
When the water continued to rise I sent a tweet about forty five minutes after midnight asking if anyone had any spare sandbags.
Paul from the Quarryman’s Rest thankfully replied to say he had some available for us so we set off up the road.
A few people were out on the street and pointed out a couple of bags that were not being utilised that were under water so we took those to start with.
Paul then passed us in his car as he was bringing the sandbags down to us…what a service.
The water was still creeping towards us so we went into the shop and lifted everything up high just in case.
It is now twenty past two and the water is slowly sliding back so let’s hope there is no more rain until it’s all in the river.
I don’t feel like sleep at a time like this.
A joke to finish off with, as you have to keep smiling…..
After a long night of making love, the guy notices a photo of another man, on the woman’s nightstand by the bed. He begins to worry.
‘Is this your husband?’ he nervously asks.
‘No, silly,’ she replies, snuggling up to him.
‘Your boyfriend, then?’ he continues.
‘No, not at all,’ she says, nibbling away at his ear.
‘Is it your dad or your brother?’ he inquires, hoping to be reassured.
‘No, no, no! You are so hot when you’re jealous!’ she answers.
‘Well, who in the hell is he, then?’ he demands.
She whispers in his ear‘That’s me before the surgery.’ …
